AGRICULTURAL AWARDS
Lincoln Students’ Success Shell agricultural scholarships have been awarded this year to Messrs P. R. Stevens and D. Wilson, of Lincoln College, and Mr N. Grace, of Massey College, The scholarships, valued at £2OO each, are awarded annually to selected students to assist them in their studies for the degree of master of agricultural science. Mr Stevens, who was born in Melbourne, is 23. He attended the Geelong Gram-
mar School before coming to New Zealand to study at Lincoln College. He is engaged in a study of soils in the Franz Josef glacier area. He hopes to continue his research into soil characteristics, and will probably study for his doctorate. Mr Wilson comes from Scotland. He received his secondary education at George Watson's College, Edinburgh, and later at H.M.S. Conway, the cadet school ship, where he obtained the Conway "extra” certificate. Mr Wilson came to New Zealand in 1956, and two years later entered Lincoln
College, where his special field of interest is genetics and plant breeding. His future studies in this field will give particular attention to forage crops. Mr Grace, who is 22, grew up in the Manawatu, where his family farms at Sanson. He attended the Feilding College in 1958. He gained the Lord Bledisloe Prize in 1958, the George Terry Memorial Scholarship for 1961 and the senior scholarship in agriculture this year. Mr Grace intends to specialise in animal nutrition, with particular reference to protein nutrition and ruminant metabolism and physiology.
