Youth Mistaker For Deer

A 19-year-old farm worker died in the Gore Hospital yesterday from a 303 bullet wound in the stomach received while onossum hunting in high country about five miles from Tapanui last Sunday He was: Philip Taylor, of Hawea
He had been on the critically ill list at the hospital since the accident
Taylor, who was emoloyed bv Roaer Brothers, at Crookston. was one of a party of three who had spent the day opossum bursting in the Blue Mountains
About 6.30 p.m they were coming round the side of a slope on the edge of a gully at the same time as another oarty of three, which had been deerstalking. were coming out of the mountains.
Seeing the three opossum hunters and mistaking them for deer, one of the deerstalkers fired, and Taylor was shot in the stomach.
