Iwi Roa’s Connexions Disqualified For Year

AUCKLAND, Aug. 24.

Two inquiries were conducted today by a specially appointed sub-committee of '.he executive committee of the New Zealand Racing Conference, presided over by Dr A. McGregor Grant. Charges preferred by a racecourse inspector. C Dudley. against T. P. Fuller, of Rotorua, and R F. Green, of Thames, were heard. They concerned the non-registra-tion of a joint interest over the borse Iwi Roa. in which Green retained a contingent interest. Both men pleaded guilty. The committee fined each man £5 and disqualified them for 12 months The committee also disqualified the horse from the four races in which it had been placed and ordered that the stake money be refunded. One month was allowed within which the horse could be sold.

At the hearing Mr L. H Southwick appeared for the racecourse inspector. Mr K. R Horsley for Fuller and Mr J McK. Geddes for Green.

A charge was preferred by Mr J. A. Poulsen, s'.inendiarv s'eward, against A E.. E. B and W. C Winters, the joint owners of the horse Mantovani. of an alleged breach of rule 245 (6). The horse was an acceptor for the Weraroa Stakes at

the Egmont-Wanganui Hunt Club's meeting at Wanganui on July 14. 1962, and the Trial Stakes at the Wellington Racing Club's meeting on the same date. The owners failed to comply with the requirements of the rule which obliged them to give notification by noon the previous day to the secretary of each club, at which meeting it was in'ended to start the horse. On behalf of the partnershin. E B Winters pleaded guilty The sub-committee accepted that the breach of the rule had been committed because of ignorance by the owners, who had a comparatively limited experience, but with the obligation to protect nff-course betters in such circumstances, it decided that E B Winters, who admitted being in charge of :he horse a' the relevant time, be fined £ 10.

Owner's Gesture To Handicapped

(N.Z Press Association) WHANGAREI. August 24. The 11-year-old trotter Highland Gold will in future race for the benefit of the in‘e!lectu»lly handicapped children at St. Nicholas' Home, Whangarei.

His owner. Mr H. S Barry of Point Chevalier, has leased him to Mr B. Davis, of Albany, on the condition that 15 per cent, of all stakes is given to the Intellectually Handicapped Children's Parents’ Association.
