France Biggest E.E.C. Wool Buyer From N.Z.

France was the biggest buyer among European Economic Community countries of wool from New Zealand in the 10 months to April 30 this year, according to the latest release by the New Zealand Wool Commission on wool exports. Shipments to France were 225,784 bales—l 6.3 per cent, of the total 1,381,107 bales shipped—and to a single country

this was second only to the 422,063 bales, or 30.6 per cent., shipped to the United Kingdom. The United States was in third place with 211.609 bales, or 15.3 per cent., followed by Belgium, another E.E.C. country, with 115.175 bales, or 8.3 per cent. The E.E.C. countries in all again took most of New Zealand's wool shipments, with 562.117 bales, or 36 2 per cent. This continues recent trends. More wool was shipped from New Zealand in the 10 months than in the same 10 months of last year. Exports totalled 1.381,107 bales, a rise of 188,835 bales or 13 5 per cent.

Shipments of wool to Japan were 83,641 bales, against 76.723 bales last year. Communist bloc countries took only 2.1 per cent, of the wool shipped, while other countries took 5.2 per cent. Details of quantities entered for shipment to the principal destinations, and the share of the total this year, are as follows:
