HOSPICE FOR AGED

Tender Let For Construction

A tender from Paynter and and Hamilton, Ltd., Christchurch, has been accepted for the building of a hospice to be run by the Social Service Council of the diocese of Christchurch.

The hospice, which will be known as Churchill Hospice, will care for 27 aged persons. It will be connected to the Churchill Courts home for the aged by a covered way. The Government subsidy of up to £3OOO a bed covers all building costs. leaving £4186. which includes architects’ and consultants’ fees, plus the cost of furnishings and equipment, for the council to find.

‘The cost of equipping and furnishing the hospice will undoubtedly be large so every effort is being made to raise sufficient funds to defrav the cos's.” said Mr G. M. Morgan, director of the council yesterday.
