(K.Z. Press .Association)
WELLINGTON. Aug. 24 The Lands'.ide which fatally crushed a youth at the western portal of the Seatoun tunnel on June 27 had been an unpredictable danger, the Coroner (Mr P. Keesing) said at an inquest today. Peter Anthony Goods rd. a 17-year-old Scots College pupil, was killed when his car was buried under a slip at the tunnel entrance. The Coroner said he had recently visited the scene with a civil engineer. The engineer had said that since the tunnel was constructed in 1906 the slip slope had been cut back and loose materials removed City Council records held no evidence of a previous slip at the tunnel portals. • ' Inspection was difficult on such a steep slorre. “It seems beyond expectation that the danger should have been discovered." he said.
The slip had been caused by heavy rain soaking the clay bank for some time be-
fore the accident. The Coroner found the youth died from traumatic asphyxia from the slip which crushed him and the car he was driving.
