Queen Makes Dazzling Picture At Theatre

The crowds who waited to see Queen Sirikit of Thailand go to the Royal concert at the Civic Theatre last evening were rewarded by a magnificent picture of Her Majesty in diamonds, mink and an elegant silver and blue evening .gown.

In turquoise blue brocade, patterned to a heavy silver traditional design, her long, gently flared frock had a weist-lengtflh matching jacket with wide bands of silver mink edging tlhe braceletlength sleeves. She wore a white mink stole, silver blue brocade shoes and white gloves. The Queen’s black hair was dressed in a high topknot with a diamond hairclasp above her brow. Her necklace, pendant earrings and wide bracelet sparkled with diamonds.

Her Majesty, who is suffering from a cold, did not take off her jacket before entering the theatre. Princess Vibhavadi Rangsit, the Queen’s sister and lady-in-waiting, wore a gown of maize-gold satin made with a cross-over top, narrow shoulder straps and a long, flared skirt. She wore a matching necklace and bracelet set of diamonds and a beige mink stole. Theatre Decorations

Perfumed by the fresh scent of thousands of spring flowers and greenery, the

’Civic Theatre was yesterday transformed into a garden of colour and elegance. For the civic reception, the theatre’s stage was dressed for a gala occasion.

Across the back of the stage the flags of Thailand and New Zealand formed a backdrop to massed potted shrubs Set at a vantage point was a huge pedestal bowl of arum lilies, daffodils and spikes of pussy willow, which took on a pink glow under the lighting. Round the edge of the stage was a deep bank of narcissi and greenery.

This spring theme was repeated on both the upstairs foyer and entrance hall, where huge bowls of arum lilies and other choice flora were arranged above pale blue drapes. Outside the

theatre was decorated with fern and g-een foliage arrangements. Royal Concert

For the concert given by the National Orchestra at the theatre in the evening, the Royal box specially prepared for the occasion was decorated with a long bank arrangement of beautifully tinted spring flowers —cyclamen, primulas, narcissi, variegated leaves, asparagus fern, and other foliage in white, cream, yellow, cerise, dark brown and green toniAMs.

Set off against a dark red carpeting and the green, beige and brown padded chairs placed in three rows of eight for the Royal party, this floral piece looked down on the sea of spring flowers banked on the stage below'
