QUEEN IN CERISE
Choice For
Reception
Queen Sirikit of Thailand, acclaimed as the world’s most beautiful “first lady’’ and one of its three bestdressed women, attended the civic reception yesterday wearing a becoming shade of cerise.
Her small pillbox hat, with a buckled band, her slightly flared frock and hip-length jacket with a mandarinstyled collar were all of the same light-wool fabric. Her handbag and shoes were ebony brown suede and her gloves white, accentuating her long, slim fingers Her large pearl stud earrings were encircled in diamonds, her brooch vas a floral motif spray of diamonds, and her necklace multi-strands of pearls. When outdoors, Queen Sirikit wore a dark brown mink fur coat against the cold.
Listening to the speeches, the serene and petite Queen must have been aware that most eyes were turned her way. Her glance often wandered up to the gallery, then down to the stalls. With a hint of a smile she seemed to be acknowledging personally the warmth of the welcome. Occasionally she looked down to admire the hand spray of creamy white spring flowers, presented to her by the Mayoress (Mrs Manning).
