RACING Personify To Make Fresh Start Soon

Personify, winner of four races for Mr M. D. Studholme last season, will start a fresh campaign at Ashburton on September 8.

He will run against the sprinters at Ashburton, but will quickly return to middle distance racing in which he shows ability, especially on the smaller courses.

In December, Personify won the Hororata Cup by four lengths from McCool, since winner of three races, two at Riccarton.

Tutton, winner of two races recently for the Waimate owner, Mr C. E. Leighton, will have his next start at Ashburton.

He won in style against the hack milers at the Otago Hunt meeting last Saturday, after a sound win over seven furlongs on the second day of the Grand National meeting. Tutton has graduated to open class with more than £lOOO in winnings, and he should continue to do well while the tracks are soft. Course Winner Mr Leighton’s private trainer, R. P. Langford, will probably campaign Tutton at the Dunedin spring meeting after Ashburton. Tutton won two hack sprints at Wingatui last spring.

Langford also hopes to have a two-year-old runner for the stable in the McLean Stakes at Wingatui. This is a gelding by Talismano from Credible, bought by Mr Leighton for 160gns at the national sales at Trentham last January. This youngster will appear in the parade for two-year-olds at Ashburton. He is from the first crop by Talismano, an Italianbred by Star of Gujrath, son of Nearco. Talismano won 12 races

and ran third in the Italian Derby. Credible, the dam of Mr Leighton’s two-year-old, was also imported after showing placed form. She has left Tokukawa. a good winner in Japan, and three successful performers in Australia.

Another two-year-old in the Langford team is a grey fiUy by Rejoicing U from Siabhan, by Cimbrone. This youngster will not race early in the season.
