Tennis ‘UNHEALTHY ACCOUNTS’
Local Body Disturbed
"The committee is very disturbed at the unhealthy trend shown by the accounts, and is exploring every avenue to increase the association's income.’’ says the annual report of the management committee of the Canterbury Lawn Tennis Association, to be presented to the annual meeting on September 3.
The accounts showed a very disappointing result for the year, the excess of expenditure over income before charging depreciation being £446 and, after allowing for depreciation. £797.
To some extent this deficit was caused by the reduced income earned from the professionals' visit through wet weather. At present the association was wo: king on overdraft.
Congratulating Miss J. Davidson on being selected to tour overseas with the New Zealand women’s team, the report also says that £129 was still required to pay for the association's share of the cost. Clubs are urged to assist as far as possible in this respect. A notice with the annual report says that Mr M C. Healey will move the following motion at the annual meeting:—"That a voluntary levy be charged on all senior members and working juniors, the funds collected from these levies to be used only for overseas travel." Membership has decreased slightly, being 6101 as against 6214 for the previous season. Details of membership are as follows, with the 1960-61 figures in parenthesis:—Seniors 2003 (2062). juniors 2490 <2439). subassociations 1599 (1723).
