W. A. Smith To Ride Marco Khan
(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) MELBOURNE. Aug. 22. The top light-weight jockey, W. A. Smith, has been offered the mount on the New Zealand bred Marco Khan in his first-up start in the weight-for-age J. J. Liston Stakes (seven furlongs) at Flemington on Saturday. Smith, who has a remarkable record in big races, said today he would probably accept the mount.
Trainer’s Death
(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) MELBOURNE. Aug. 22. A prominent Melbourne trainer, Theo Lewis, died suddenly at his home early today. Only yesterday Mr Lewis was elected president of the Victoria Racehorse Trainers’ Association. Before he switched to training he was a successful jockey.
