Fanners Discuss Shipping Costs
Believing in free enterprise, New Zealand should foster more competition among shipping lines, Mr T. G. Maxwell said at a meeting yesterday of the executive committee of the meat and wool section of North Canterbury Federated Farmers.
Mr Maxwell was speaking in support of an Omihi remit that sought more competition in the carriage of frozen meat. The remit was amended to ask that the Meat Producers’ Board be urged to take up with the Government the cause of increased costs in New Zealand waters. The turn-round of ships at New Zealand wharves was putting charges up, Mr A. C. Wright said.
