RAILWAY YARD CHANGES
Suggestions Rejected Suggestions on the extension of loading facilities at “D” shed at the Christchurch railway station and on the establishment of outside loading at Waltham yard have been rejected by the general manager of railways (Mr A T Gandell). says the latest newsletter of the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce.
A special committee from the chamber had approached him with the suggestions Mr Gandell said his reasons for rejecting the suggestions were the high cost of the improvements and the possible changes which would arise from the completion of the road tunnel and the new Lyttelton harbour works
The newsletter says the chamber has asked Mr Gandell to reconsider his decision about "D” shed, because much of the cost could be avoided by proceeding with saw-tooth loading docks without veranda coverage.
