ASIAN GAMES DISPUTE
LA.A.F. Warning To Indonesia
(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) LONDON, August 22.
International athletics faces its most crucial situation today when reports from Djakarta about the Asian Games are studied in London, according to the “Daily Mail.”
The secretary of the International Amateur Athletics Federation (Mr D. Pain) has already warned Indonesia, the organisers, that if Israel is excluded for political reasons, the championships due to start tomorrow will not be officially licensed. Any nation ignoring the decision of the federation risks suspension.
Reports from Israel last night said that her team of 37 had withdrawn from the games in protest against refusal of entry visas, the newspaper said. Fears were that the Indonesians would present the track and field events as official championships: despite the federation's warning, and that this dispute would jeopardise entries for the next Olympic Games in Tokyo.
