REGIMENTS ALLIED
Royal Approval Given (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, August 22. The Queen has approved an alliance between the New Zealand Regiment and the Royal Australian Regiment. The Minister of Defence (Mr Eyre) said today that the alliance marked the formal recognition of the strong bonds of friendship between the regular infantry regiments of both countries. Battalions of both regiments are serving together in the 28th Commonwealth Brigade in Malaya. “This latest alliance is particularly significant in view of the increasingly close co-operation between the forces of New Zealand andAustralia,” he said.
All regiments of the Royal New Zealand Infantry have alliances with British infantry regiments, but this is the first between New Zealand and Australian regiments. The New Zealand Regiment already has alliances with the 3rd Green Jackets (Rifle Brigade) and the Royal Malay Regiment.
