BUS REVENUE HIGHER

Traffic Growth ‘‘Encouraging”

Revenue received by the Transport Board in the tour weekly period ended July 15 was £2382 more than the corresponding period of last year, the chairman of the finance committee (Mr A. J. Woodward) told a meeting of the board yesterday. Commenting on the figures for the period, the chairman. Mr E. J. Bradshaw, said that with the increase in revenue there was less likelihood of fares being increased. Mr Woodward said that the deficiency for the period, £12,307, was £1903 less than that for the same period in 1961. It was very encouraging to see the growth of traffic, and although it might be unwise to take one four-weekly period as a basis of assumption, the increase in the revenue was heartening when the undertaking was operating at a loss, said Mr Woodward. The total revenue for the period was £47,427, operating expenses were £48,723. leaving a net loss of £1296 which with standing charges added made a total deficiency of £12307.
