BANANA TRAIN ON FERRY

Fruit Arrives In Good Condition

The first banana train from the North Island to the South Island arrived in Christchurch yesterday morning. It crossed Cook Strait in the Aramoana, and the bananas were in good condition when they arrived. Eleven waggon-loads of 4200 cases, approximately 1500 of which are for distribution in Christchurch, came direct from the Matua in Auckland. The trial shipment cut handling of the fruit to a minimum. It is expected that the usual banana delivery will be increased to two each month. The bananas will be on sale in Christchurch next Tuesday after ripening.
