EXTRADITED FROM N.Z.

Man Charged In Sydney (N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) SYDNEY. August 13. A 35-year-old clerk had deprived his estranged wife of access to their two daughters by taking them to New Zealand, it was alleged in the Special Court today. The man was extradited to Australia under the Migration Act—the first time that it had been used for this purpose. Before the Court was James Stewart Chapman, of Glenside, Johnsonville, Wellington. The charge said that on January 13, 1961, an order was made in the Supreme Court entitling the wife, Mrs Norah Josephine Chapman, one day’s access a week to their children, Susan Caroline, aged 13, and Elaine (9), and that on January 30, 1961, Chapman took the children to New Zealand, without his wife’s written consent. Mr M. J. McCauley. S.M., remanded Chapman until August 31 on £lOO bail.
