(jvew Zealand. Press Association) WELLINGTON, August 13. Social Security benefits at the new increased rates, plus arrears, would be paid on October 2, it was announced today. The payout covers age, invalids, widows, miners and orphans’ benefits.
Arrears in economic war pensions, wives’ pensions and war veterans’ allowances will be paid on October 4, and increased superannuation benefits and arrears will be paid out on November 6.
More than 250.000 persons will benefit. Arrears apply from July 18. The increases come after the recent general wage order by the Arbitration Court Those receiving sickness unemployment and related emergency benefits on a weekly basis will receive arrears with the payment due this week Subsequent payments will be at the higher rates
The Minister in charge of War Pensions (Mr Kinsella) and the Minister of Health (Mr McKay) announced the payment dates Mr McKay said that Social Security beneficiaries collecting by the certificate-and-advice method would also get arrears from July 18 in the instalment on October 2. He said that additional payments on October 2 or November 6 for those holding order books would include arrears plus an additional amount to build up the orders remaining in the book to the new rate
“Because order books expire at varying dates during the year, all beneficiaries will not receive the same amount.
"Payments will vary according to the period that any
particular book has left to run,” he said. “When these books are renewed the new rates will be incorporated so that all will eventually get the same amount.”
Mr McKay said adjusting payments would be mailed to all beneficiaries holding order books It was important for the department to be notified of any changes of address Since the current book was issued.
