MINISTERS PLEA
Plain Language Wanted A plea for plain language from scientists in their reports to the Government and to the public was made by ‘he Minister in charge of Scientific and Industrial Research (Mr Tennent) when he officially opened the tenth New Zealand science congress in Christchurch yesterday.
Because of the increasingly important part science was playing in the development of New Zealand, expenditure on it had to be increased, said Mr Tennent. “It is one of my tasks to persuade my colleagues in the Cabinet of the need to increase the vote f<?r science.” he said. ‘‘They are sympathetic, but they have tc be convinced that the vote asked for is justified. “Our task would be easier if the scientists could explain in plain language to the public—and members of Parliament—the value of the scientific work you are doing.” Mr Tennent said to delegates.
