CHILDREN’S HOMES APPEAL

With figures from three districts yet to be filed, £1227 13s had been collected by 5 p.m. in the Combined Children's Homes annual appeal, held yesterday. The appeal opened at 7.30 a.m., and boxes were manned by 430 collectors coming from members of Anglican, Presbyterian and Melthod st churches as well as the staffs of several city firms, said tlhe chairman of the Christchurch Chikiren's Homes Combined Appeal Trust Board (Mir L. G. K. Steven*. It was hoped that the final amount will reach £1250. This will be about £2BO less than last year's total, but the weather was partly responsible for the loss, he said. Proceeds will go to the three homes which house about 150 children, conducted by the churches.
