South Africa’s fly-half, Oxlee, settled the four-match Rugby Union series against the British Lions on Saturday when he scored all his side’s points in an 8-3 victory in the third test at Newlands.
Oxlee kicked the penalty goal in the second test at Durban two weeks ago which gave the Springboks a 1-0 lead in the series The first test was drawn. 3-3. The Lions went ahead when their fly-half. R Sharp, playing in his first test, kicked a great dropped goal after 27 minutes. Three minutes later
the first two tests, and M. Rouxe made several good breaks on the wing without being really dangerous. The play of both full-backs. South Africa’s L. Wilson and the Lions’ T. Kiernan. left nothing to be desired. Under pressure Kiernan played gallantly and Wilson was his usual steady self. The Springbok front row set the foundation of victory. F. Kuhn and C. Bezuidenhoudt gave 'S. Millar and K. Jones a tough time, but the Lions’ experienced Welsh hooker, B. Meredith, was again outstanding.
