War Pension Increase
Sir, —-It is up to “No Choice” to qualify his argument of July 24 that in “fairness” to the war disabled that the economic has the same monetary value as the unemployment benefit, and ‘hen continues to relate the whole subject to the un. employment. Unfortunately that is the commonly-held mistaken notion, as the disability is not economic, but medical and surgical. Now the War Pensions report, 1961, gives the following figures for all economic cases from the First. Second and Korea., wars. Out of a grand totai of 3531. 2313 are in the groups of 86-99. 100. and over 100 per cent, medical and surgical disabilities. Thus the ruling factor is not the unemployment, but the disability—a truth which it has taken the R.S.A. over 30 years to discove..—Yours, etc., R. M. THOMSON. July 31. 1962.
