Names Not Yet Released (From Our Own Reporter) WELLINGTON. Aug. 1. Although comprehensive elans have been prepared for ‘he snow training programme on Miunt Ruapehu intended f~r the 4 o men who will, comprise New Zealand Antarctic teams th ; s season, no details have yet been released by the Antarctic Division of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Reasearch. The reason for this is that.' although the men have been notified individually. the names of the successful candidates have not yet been released by the Minister (Mr Tennent).

The course is planned to begin on Sunday and to last a fortnight. It will include, as well as intensive snow training. a lecture and demonstration course on matters likely to be of value in the Antractic. Lieutenant-Colonel R. A. Tinker, of Christchurch, who will lead the Antarctic party, will direct training. Among those who will deliver the lectures are univer. sity professors and some authorities on search-and-rescue and survival methods. These lectures may be supplemented with practical demonstrations In the snows of Ruapehu. The selections were made more than a week ago, but the norma] procedure for the appointment of Antarctic teams entails the sending of departmental selections to the Public Service Commission ’or final approval. This has taken some time. The head of the Antarctic Division (Mr G. W Markham) left today for the United States. It is understood that he will inspect the United States tanker Namakagon. which is being refitted and which will soon become the New Zealand .Antarctic support ship Endeavour.
