SUBDIVISION IN HALSWELL
Question On Water Supply
The Halswell County Council had not undertaken to supply water for the 50 to 60-acre housing subdivision being developed by the Ministry of Works in the county, said the chairman (Mr H. Oox) when the council considered an inquiry from the ministry about the supply. The water supply lay-out had been approved by the council on the assumption that the supply .would be from the city. No scheme involving supply from Halswell had been envisaged, said Cr. G. van Asch. A letter to this effect had been sent to the City Council more than three weeks ago, but no answer had been received, said the County Clerk (Mrs R. Ballintine). The ministry will be told that the county is not responsible for the supply. The ministry was concerned because an outside supply had been planned for the scheme and no allowance had been made for the installation of an independent source in the scheme, said the county engineer (Mr J. Clark).
