GOLDEN KIWI ACCOUNTS
No Provision For Auditing (NZ Press Association) WELLINGTON, July 11. New legislation is required to govern the auditing of the accounts of the Golden Kiwi lottery, the Solicitor-General has advised the Minister of Internal Affairs (Mr Gotz). This was shown in the annual report of the ControUer and Auditor-General (Mr A. D. Burns), which was tabled in the House of Representatives today The system of lotteries had, in the opinion of the Solici-tor-General. developed beyond the scope intended by the Gaming Act, 1908 The Solicitor-General has ruled that the surplus profits were not public moneys but were held in trust by the Minister of Internal Affairs for institutions and purposes decided by the Minister. The Audit Office therefore was not required to audit these funds, it was said.
