REGISTRATION OF SHIPPING

WELLINGTON, July 10.
Superintendents of mercantile marine and collectors of customs today began their annual three-day conference in Wellington. One of the main proposals being discussed at the conference. which is being conducted by the section officer of shipping. Mr E. R. Martin, assisted by Mr J. Conway, will transfer the registration of shipping from the Customs Department to the Marine Department.
Today those attending the conference met the Minister of Marine (Mr R. G. Gerard) at a short social function at Parliament Buildings. The representatives of the various centres at the conference are:—Messrs W. G. Cameron (Dunedin) WEvans (Westport), R. L. Keats (Wellington), L. G Russell (Bluff), B. J. T. Simons (Lyttelton), R. A. Squire (Auckland), H. M. Barnett (Tauranga), C. G. Crawford (Timaru), D. J. Earl (New Plymouth), F. A. Howell (Napier), W. M. Nelson (Nelson).
