STUDENT STREET APPEAL
Funds For Ham Sports Ground
For the first time in 35 years. University of Canterbury students will hold a street appeal on Friday on their own behalf, raising money for the Dam sports ground. Instead of capping week fancy-dress, collectors will wear academic gowns. ‘•ln the last 30 years, students have raised £37.350 for Christchurch charities,” said Mr I. H. MacDonald, a member of the sports ground committee.
“In addition, they have contributed £48.000 of their own since 1956 towards their present union building and towards the new building at Ilam.” Sixteen teams used the Dam sports ground each Saturday. Money was sought for the upkeep of grounds, to epuip the first-aid rooms, and to provide crockery and furniture for the afternoon tea room, he said.
