STEEL FOR TRADERS
Undertaking By Minister

WELLINGTON. July 11. The Minister of Industries and Commerce (Mr Marshall) today gave the House of Representatives an assurance that the interests of steel traders dealing with Pacific Steel, Ltd., would be safeguarded He gave this undertaking after Mr R. D. Muldoon (Government, Tamaki) quoted press reports alleging a restrictive distribution policy by the company Mr Marshall said he had had complaints from several traders about the steel firm’s distribution. Its policy required Government concurrence. and negotiations were still continuing between the company and the department. A meeting would be held tomorrow.
“Before negotiations are completed we will consult with steel traders and their interests will be protected,” he said.
“They can rely on me to see they get a fair deal.”
