TRANSFER OF SALEYARDS
Land Offered In Sockburn
Land was available in Sockburn for the saleyards if the Canterbury Saleyards Company decided to move from Riccarton. the abattoir and reserves committee reported to the City Council. The council owned approximately 70 acres in Hayton road, part of which could be made available for the saleyards, the committee said. The council agreed with the committee that the chairman (Cr. P. J. Skellerup) and the Director of Reserves (Mr H. G. Gilpin) should be authorised to discuss the proposal with representatives of the Saleyards Company, the Canterbury Bye-Products Company, Ltd., which leases the abattoir, and the Paparua County Council.
