New Hotel Rushed

The biggest crowd in the history of the Hauraki Plains town of Ngatea (population s>2o) was present today when the town’s first hotel opened its doors at 10 a.m. with a traditional flow of country hospitality.
Twelve barmen were rushed by a mass of customers, including visitors from Auckland, Hamilton, and Taranaki. A licence for a hotel in Ngatea was granted in 1945, but work did not begin on the building till last year.
Hit Parked Truck.— When his motor-scooter hit a truck double parked in King street, near Colombo street, about 5.20 p.m. on Saturday, Julius Long, of 8 McLelland place, suffered bruising to the chest. He was treated at Christchurch Hospital.
