Widow's Benefit
Sir.—l thought that the widow's benefit was more than the age benefit, but I have now found that they receive £l9 every four weeks, the same amount Could you advise me how long this has been so?— Yours, etc, WIDOW. June 13. 1962. (Mr E. B Pyne, registrar of the Social Security Department in Christchurch, said: 'The maximum benefit payable to a widow without dependent children has been at the same rate as that payable to a single or widowed age beneficiary since October 1. 1945. Prior to this, the age benefit was at a higher rate than widow's benefit.”]
