INVITATION TO QUEEN?
P.M. Declines To Comment t Parliamentary Retmrter) WELLINGTON. June 17. The Prime Minister <Mr Holyoake) last night declined to comment on a report that he would take a formal invitation with him to London in September for the Queen to visit New Zealand The Queen last visited the Dominion in 1953 Mr Holyoake also refused to confirm or deny suggestions that the Government thought this time was appropriate to issue an invitation for a Royal tou’- in 1964. or more probably in 1965. A report from London recently said that the Australian Prime Minister (Mr Menzies', now tn London, had invi'ed the Queen to make a short visit to Australialimited to New South Wales Victors and Queensland early In 1964 Buckingham Palace con■siders the next years’ Roya' ! engagements in October or ISen’ember i It is understood that 'although the Queen aoproves [short, and more frequent Commonwealth tours she prefers them to be in association with some major national [occasion or event.
