Basketball Trials
Trial matches usually bring In their wake frustration foi seme and elation for others and there is no reason t< suppose that the trials to aic the selection of the Canter bury basketball team thi: season will not conform tc this pattern.
The first of the tria matches for 1962 will be helc at Hagley Park this morning and a high standard o basketball should be seen Possibly the outstanding feature is that the selectors have so many promising defences to choose from. This department is likely to be the most difficult to select. Doubtless there will be disappointments, but the younger players should benefit from playing in good company.
The Canterbury selectors. Mrs O. Shannahan. and Misses B. Stone and H. Yates, recently announced a squad of 21 players. This squad hrs an admirable blending of youth and experience No matter who the selectors eventually choose, it appears that once more Canterbury will be the team to beat at the New Zealand championships.
