Shirt Factory In Nelson

A question relating to los« of employment in the shir’making industry was asked in Parliament this afternoon by Mr S. A. Whitehead (Opposition. Nelson). Mr Whitehead asked the Minister of Industries and Commerce (Mr Marshal!' whether his attention had been drawn to a recent statement that a shirt factory :n Nelson, employing 29 people, had found it necessary to re-
duce its staff to two. He asked whether the Minister could conduct an inquiry into "the practice being adopted by wholesale importing interests in respect to their methods regarding the allocation of raw materials to such factories as the one referred to.” Mr Whitehead also asked for an inquiry into the costs added to articles produced n this type of factory from the time the raw 'material is supplied to the manufacturer until the article is on sale to the public.
