TIMARU SEAT
Mr Pickering Available (N.Z. Press Association TIMARU. June 5. Mr N. G. Pickering, of, Christchurch, is prepared to’ allow his name to go for-1 ward for selection as the I Labour Party candidate fori Timaru. Mr Pickering, who was the member of Parlament fori St. Albans from 1957 to 1960 lost that seat to Mr H. J ; Walker, the present member by 298 votes at the last General Election. On May 23 the chairman of the St. Albans inter-branch council of the Labour Party announced that Mr Pickering’s earlier decision to offer his services at Timaru had been withdrawn. He would be standing again for St. Albans. Mr Pickering said tonight that he would now be available as the Timaru candidate. “I am only coming back in; because of the overwhelming; representations that have been made to me by various unions and by people both within and outside the party,” said Mr Pickering. Mr Norman Shipway Brown, a farmer, of Pleasant Point, today announced that he would be available for nomination as National Party candidate for Timaru. Writ For Buller Poll Issued iNZ Press Association) WELLINGTON. June 5. The Clerk of Writs <Mr J V. Meech) said tonight that the writ for the Buller byelection was issued today Nominations for the byelection will close at noon on Friday. June 15. Polling day will be Saturday. July 7, and the writ will be returnable on or before Wednesday. July 25. The roll for the by-election closed at 6 p.m. yesterday.
