CIVIL DEFENCE IN PAPARUA
No Decision Yet On Appointments A request by the group controller of civil defence (Mr E. A. Cooney) to consider the appointment of men by the councils in the group to head the civil defence organisation was recently discussed by the Paparua County Council, which decided that their appointment was necessary; but would be less complicated if the question of group, as opposed to individual county organisation. was first determined It was decided that no further action be taken by the council in the election of a county organiser until after a meeting to be held sonn by Mr Cooney Summonses are to be issued to three residents who have accounts outstanding for work done by the council. The amounts total £l5 ss. tn. dividual charges ranging from £2 to £7. The county clerk (Mr A. Kelly) said a number of monthly notices, followed by a letter final notice and a letter from a solicitor, had been sent to each debtor
Building permits to the value of £88.046 were issued by the council last month. The permits numbered 62. 15 being for houses. Two permits. one for the Christchurch City Council and the other for a radio and electrical factory, were valued at £13.400 and £12,950 respectively.
