Comparison Of Methods tHZ Press Association) AUCKLAND, June 5 French children learning to apeak English reach a far better standard of conversation than New Zealand pupils learning French, according to Mr J. Bremner. a Westlake High School teacher who today returned from a visit to France under the Wooif Fisher trust However. New Zealand children had a better understanding of French grammar than their French counterparts would in English, be said. This was due to the revolutionary teaching methods employed in France which placed.more emphasis on oral work than on written. In New Zeeland, the opposite happens. Mr Bremner said that while written French was likely to be of more use to New Zealanders than oral, there would probably be some modifications to the present method of teaching in this country
At present, however, the methods employed in France were far too expensive to be used in New Zealand in their nresent form.
