County Service Charges Reduced In Paparua
Residents in the Paparua county will pay less in county rates and charges this year because of reductions in some supply charges. No change has been made in the general rate of 9/lOd in the £.
A 25 per cent, reduction in water race and special stock water supply charges, and a reduction of 10 per cent in high-pressure water supply charges were approved at a meeting of the council last evening.
The annual cost of highpressure water supply to ratepayers was now very small, as a reduction of 16 2-3 per cent, had been made a year ago. the chairman (Mr J. H Weaver) said.
Record mileage In road and footpath sealing, and kerbing and channelling is propped by the council this season. Nine miles and a half of roads and streets is scheduled for reconstruction and sealing, and about three miles will be resealed. About four miles and a half of kerbing and channelling and footpath sealing is planned for this reason Estimated receipts and proposed expenditure this year total £226.569 The council expects £73.900 from general rales.
National Roads Board subsidies amounting to £39.431 wifi be the next largest source of income From plant hire the council expects to gain about £25.000: from high pressure water supply charges about £22,000: and from high-pressure water supply loan funds about £15.000
Roads and footpaths, on which the council expects to spend about £100.756. are the major items for expenditure High-pressure water supply will cost the council almost £21.000
About £l2OO is to be spent on town planning and £9OOO on park development. The museum trust and Riccarton Bush will cost the council about £l2OO Amounts of more than £lO.OOO have been estimated for plant maintenance and administration.
