Clarke’s Kick “Greatest”

“72 Yard Goal by Clarke Swings Test” and "All Blacks Win. But Australia Not Shamed." These were the headlines in Sydney’s newspapers today over "reports of the AU Blacks’ 14-5 win in the second Rugby test at Sydney yesterday Writing in the Sydney "Daily Telegraph.” Phil Tresidder said Clarke’s kick which gave New Zealand a 6-5 lead in ’he first half, was one of the greatest in test Rugby. “A roaring crowd saw the massive All Black full-back boot the penalty from seven yards outside the half-way From kick to bounce, the ball carried some 72 yards dropping on the dead-ball line 10 yards behind the goal.” he wrote. Tressider said a superb spirit prevailed m a game that was rugged and fiercely tough.. In tne "Sydney Morning Herald." Jim’ Webster said the All Blacks played much more enterprising Rugby than they had in recording their 20-9 win in the first test at Brisbane. ,
Webster described Clarke's penalty as “almost unbelievable.”
