CAR RACE DIVERSION
Kangaroo Fails To Take Bend (N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) PERTH. June 5. Drivers in a six-hour car race on Caversham race track near Perth yesterday faced a hazard that would only ever confront drivers in Australia. A kangaroo streaked on to the track and bounded along faster than cars changing down for a bend. Several drivers, with their attention distracted, went into premature slides. One driver, with the kangaroo in his path, was obviously alarmed and waved his arms wildly as if to scare the intruder from the track. But the kangaroo did not retire until the bend loomed up. Being unfamiliar with the track, he failed to take his first corner and headed at some 40 miles an hour at a line of startled spectators. In spite of the efforts of several small boys to tie this kangaroo down, he careered back into the bush.
