MORE FISH WANTED
Soviet Govt. Decree
(N’Z .P .A .-Reuter—Copyright) MOSCOW. June 5. The Soviet Union yesterday followed up last week’s increases in meat and butter prices by exhorting the country’s trawlermen to catch more fish.
A Communist Party and Government decree set a target of 5.000.000 metric tons of fish and fish products this vear. compared with 3.670.000 tons at present. The decree called for better management of fishing fleets and higher productivity. and said that a plan had been approved for building new vessels. The decree made no reference to the Government'? concern over the need to increase meat output. Fish, however, is one of the basic foods of Russian families and the decree is clearly an attempt to assure poorer sections of the community tha’ they will be able to buy fish instead of the more expensive meat.
