DEDICATION OF HILL ROAD
Support Promised By Mr Goosman Support for the dedication of the road known as The Brae on St. Andrews Hill will be given by the Minister of Works (Mr Goosman). He gave this assurance to a deputation from the Christchurch City Councij yesterday. led by the chairman of the council’s works committee, Cr. A. R. Guthrey. It was not possible to widen the road to the statutory requirement of 40ft for dedication, Cr. Guthrey said. It was still private property, being comprised of access w’ays to 12 sections, but had twothirds usage by the public. The road could not be maintained from council funds unless it was dedicated. Mr Goosman said he was impressed by the case in favour of dedication, and would support the local bill necessary for it to ‘be made. That was necessary to correct a mistake of the past. The move was opposed by Cr. T. D. Flint, who said the property owners knew’ the problem when they went on to the sections, and there was a dangerous precedent in dedicating under - width roads.
