Magee’s Fine Sprint
(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, May 22. The New Zealand marathon runner, B. Magee, won his 5000metre race at the Coliseum relays in Los Angeles on Saturday with a finishing sprint almost as outstanding as the one which had earlier swept Peter Snell to an American mile record.
With about a furlong to go. Magee was more than 10 yards behind P. Clohessy, an Australian studying in Houston. Texas Yet he caught Clohessy with about 20 yards to go, and over the last 20 yards opened up a lead of 10 yards to shear 15 seconds from the meeting record
Magee returned to New Zealand with Snell today.
