U.S. Runner Forecasts 3:50 Mile By Snell

LOS ANGELES, May 22. New Zealand’s world record-holder, P. G. Snell, is capable of eventually running a mile in 3min 50sec, according to an American sub-four-minute miler, J. Beatty. Beatty missed last Friday's race between Snell and America's top miler. D. Burleson. because he had not yet reached his peak, United Press reported, Snell won the race in 3min 56.1 sec. Beatty told a sports writ-
ers meeting at Los Angeles yesterday that in his opinion Snell would have beaten Burleson, regardless of whether the pace was fast or slow Beatty said that had he run in the race he would have aimed at a mark somewhere between 3min 54sec and 3min 56sec. “I don’t like to guess about other runners but I would think that Snell is capable eventually of running a 3mm 50sec mile,” he said. Beatty was the first miler to break four minutes indoors.
