POST FOR MAORI CLERGYMAN
Possible Appointment In Christchurch The Primate and Archbishop of New Zealand (the Most Rev. N. A. Lesser) has promised to investigate the possibility of having a Maori clergyman appointed to the Christchurch Diocese. Archbishop Lesser was asked about this possibility when he addressed an informal meeting of clergy at St. Mary’s Church, Merivale, yesterday morning. He later said that hopes had been expressed about an appointment- both by Maoris and persons interested in the Maori question. "I think it would be an excellent thing,” said Archbishop Lesser. He said that the investigation would be to see whether a Maori clergyman were available, not to consider the advisability of the proposal. During the meeting Archbishop Lesser said that chaplains w’ere needed for work in Polynesia.
