EQUIPMENT FOR CRIPPLES
Check By Society Artificial limbs, wheel chairs and tricycles were amongst children’s equipment checked by the Canterbury and West Coast branch of the New Zealand Crippled Children Society during the school holidays. It was reported to the monthly meeting of the branch that one five-year-old girl, commencing school this term, has been lent a small self-propelling wheel chair for her special use at school. To save extra expense and wear in transporting the chair to and from school on the carrier of a taxi, the girl was lent a second chair for use at home.
Several country children, including two from the West Coast, had their artificial lambs checked and wheel chairs had been issued where required. One girl who recently arrived in Christchurch had been fitted with an artificial leg. and the society had been able to help in all the arrangements for her admission to high school, transport to and from school, and the supply of a new school uniform.
Several donations were reported at the meeting. The parents and boys of Medbury School contributed £2l 8s 4d. a dance at the Caledonian Hall raised £67 ss. several children held sales during the holidays in aid of the funds, and an anonymous donor sent £3 10s.
Several gay hand-knitted rugs and two attractive small dolls prams were also given.
