OFFER TO COACH WITHDRAWN
The management committee of the Canterbury Football Association last night decided to withdraw its offer of a coaching position to Mr L. Brocic, the Jugoslav coach who recently arrived in New Zealand, but expressed its willingness to consider further his suggestion of holding a coaching school in Christchurch. But. as Mr W. W. Carruthers pointed out, the Canterbury association’s present commitments would mean that the school would have to be held later in the season. The committee had before it a letter from Mr Brocic, in which he reiterated that he must have full control in the proposed coaching position and as this conflicted with the Canterbury association’s views, it appeared a stalemate had been reached. However, he added, he would be willing to conduct a coaching school in Christchurch taking players tn both practice and theory. The chairman of the committee (Mr J. Smith) said sole control by the coach was not acceptable to the association but Mr Brocic had answered the association's question and the matter of the coaching school could be kept in mind. The draw for the first round of the Chatham Cup matches in Christchurch on June 9 was made at last night’s meeting The draw is:— University v. NeerlandiaUnited; Thistle v. Lyttelton: Rangers v. High School Old Boys; New Brighton v. Christchurch City.
