SUCKED ON TO OUTLET PIPE
Boy Helped From Hot Pool (N.Z , Press Association) ROTORUA. May 22. An 11-year-old boy was sucked against the mouth of an outlet pipe in a Whakarewarewa hot pool on Sunday. The boy. Allan Duff, son of Mr G. Duff and Mrs Duff, of Matai street, Rotorua, managed to struggle free of the suction, but in the moments he was held he suffered injuries to his abdomen and chest. He was admitted to the Rotorua Hospital, where his condition this morning was reported to be satisfactory. The boy was swimming with .-hool friends in the pool which is used extensively by residents of the Whakarewarewa village. He apparently swam too close to the pipe, which is just below the surface, and was dragged to the mouth.
Companions noticed he was in difficulties, and although he freed himself without assistance, he had to be helped from the pool.
