CAR PASSENGER DIES
One-Way Bridge Collision An elderly woman passenger in the front seat of a car suffered fatal injuries in a head-on collision with another car on the Lewis Pass road about 2.15 p.m. on Monday. The woman was: Mrs Elizabeth Davison, aged 74. of 23 Marsden street, Heathcote. Christchurch. She was taken to Queen Mary Hospital after the accident. but was later transferred to Christchurch Hospital where she died early yesterday morning. The accident occurred near the middle of a one-way Bailey bridge about three miles from the junction of the Hanmer Sorings road. The weather at the time was fine and the road surface dry
Mrs Davison was travelling towards the West Coast in a car driven by her daughter. Miss Yvonne June Davison, of 87 Cowper street, Greymouth. Both the driver and a second passenger. Miss Valerie Christine Hill, of 16 Parqa road. Grevmouth, were admitted to Queen Mary Hospital with superficial lacerations and shock. The driver of the second car, Mr John Burgess Franklin, of 30 Buffon street, Christchurch, was treated and sent home. Both vehicles were severely damaged on the front right corner. Damage to the eleven-foot-wide bridge was only slight.
